Yes and No, it tells you more than you might think. Yes, it can lock the door, engaging the 'bolts/ hooks' when the handle is lifted and open the door when depressed. However, it can give you an indication in to the health of your operating system; the gearbox and mechanism.

These conform to British Standard TS007 2* (PAS 24); These offer protection to the cylinder lock, offer more solid construction and designed to be more resistant to attack. When utilised with a 1* cylinder, they offer the maximum 3* security protection. Features of the 2* handle include reinforced screw points and a rounded body and handles. Such design makes making physical destruction difficult.
