Cylinder locks

It will come as no surprise when we say, ‘There are locks and there are locks!'.

We won’t give you the ‘hard sell’ towards a product. However, we will give you the options to allow you to make an informed decision of what security level of locks should be fitted to your property, the choice is yours. Cylinder locks are fitted to UPVC and Composite doors, in Euro or Oval form. There are a plethora of brands, sizes, shapes, finishes and standards. Whilst we stock the most common sizes, it is impossible to keep them all. However, most can be obtained in a day or so.

Ultimately the most important part of your door is the lock, given that this is the part of a door most likely to be attacked. Opportunist criminals are becoming wise and aware of locks and will often look at the lock fitted to your door before deciding to commit a break-in.  Don’t worry, if you’ve been a victim of crime, we can help.

A high security lock is a great deterrent to these individuals so that you don’t become a victim of crime and another statistic!

We recommend that Insurance approved British Standard locks are fitted to your property. Such locks are identified with a stamp, either on the faceplate (Mortice lock) or on the side of the lock barrel (Cylinder lock), for example; BS 3621 / SS312/ TS007.

PLEASE NOTE:- It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct lock security standard if stipulated by your Buildings Insurance Policy.

LOCK STANDARDS

Currently, Standard, 1* and 3* (plus) are the standards typically adopted by cylinder locks (euro and oval cylinders). Standard cylinders are the lowest standard and offer the least resistance to attack. Enhanced features are added to 1* locks, moreso in the 3* (plus) rated locks.

Why change a lock?

  • Moving house – it is recommended that you change your locks after moving. Otherwise, you have no idea how many keys to your property may still be in circulation.

  • Security upgrade – upgrading to high security locks. These have enhanced features to keep your property secure and act as a visual deterrent to criminals. It adds that extra peace of mind and may not be as expensive as you might think.

  • Lost key(s) – you may have only lost 1 key and have others to hand. We would recommend you change your lock(s) for all the locks for which keys have been misplaced.

  • Worn / broken lock – not a common occurrence, but often as a result of lack of maintenance.

  • Damaged / vandalised lock – Goes without saying that you resecure your property.  Consider a security upgrade with enhanced features.
