Auto / Vehicle Security

Car crime is on the rise. Criminals are becoming increasingly astute with regards to car and home security. Aswell as looking at the car, they also look at the security on your property before undertaking any activity. Ask yourself a few questions;

1. Am I happy with the security of my property? If it's not fitted with a high security lock, a criminal may risk gaining entry to your property to physically take your car key.

2. Can the keys be seen/ accessed through the letterbox?  Avoid leaving the keys in the lock or nearby on display where they could be reached through the letterbox with an extendable pole etc.

3. Is my car 'keyless?  Keyless cars, whilst convenient for the owner are an invitation for criminals. Keyless cars can be taken in seconds purely by a device that transponds the key fob signal to the car making it think that the key/ owner is nearby. This allows the burgular to take your vehicle with the minimum of disturbance.

What can you do? See below for vehicle security tips and advice....

How do you protect your car being stolen?

1. Particularly for 'keyless' cars, when not in use, store your key fob in a Faraday box /pouch which prevents the key fob signal being intercepted and transponded to your vehicle.

2. Consider the use of physical barriers. Can you store your car in a locked garage? Failing that, using a quality steering lock provides a good visual deterrent.

3. Keep your house and car key /fob out of view and inaccessible from the letterbox, but somewhere known to all family members in case of an emergency.

4. Consider upgrading your door hardware; lock and/or handle to high security.

5. Install Video doorbells or CCTV cameras. Such technology is proven to be a deterrent and relatively inexpensive.

6. Install Vehicle tracking devices ; when activated, a 'tracker' alerts the police to the location of the vehicle and MAY reduce your insurance premium.
